Age of Empires: The Age of Kings is based on the best-selling PC title
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. Players command five different
civilizations, build armies and take them on scores of campaigns. With
turn-based strategy gameplay, Age of Empires: The Age of Kings lets
players move from the Dark Ages through the Middle Ages with one goal in
mind: dominate the known world.
The first thing you notice when you fire up the game is how good the
graphics look. The elements are mapped extraordinarily well, and there's
no confusion about what troop does what on the battlefield. While all
the action takes place on the bottom screen, you can use the top screen
as a map or a spot information screen. Regardless of whether you favor
the stylus or buttons, it's very easy to move around the map and give
commands to your troops.
You get to take command of one of five different civilizations (the
Britons, Franks, Mongols, Saracens and Japanese) and playing as "heroes"
including Richard the Lionheart, Robin Hood, Joan of Arc and Genghis
Khan. Each hero has his or her own special powers that can affect troops
on the battlefield.
The multiplayer function lets you set up scenarios and select different
maps for you and up to three friends to battle on. In all, you'll
command more than 65 different types of units from bowmen and monks to
mercenaries and samurai.
