With More Titles Than Any Other Digitally Distributed Gaming Service, GameTap Remains the Leading Destination for Gamers
GameTap, the first-of-its-kind broadband entertainment network from
Turner Broadcasting System, today celebrates an
industry shattering milestone for the digital distribution arena with
the announcement of more than 600 titles, ranging from the most popular
classic arcade and console games to content from this decade. In
addition to a robust catalog of award winning games, GameTap has
multiple titles on the horizon that will be debuting on its network,
ensuring a full mix of past and future content.
Since its launch
in October 2005, GameTap has aggressively added titles from all
generations, but it is the arcade titles that continue to capture
hearts of both the young and the young at heart. GameTap offers more
than four times the amount of classic arcade titles than its closest
competitor with plenty of multi-player games for nostalgic fans who
want to enter the competitive circuit again. Among the most popular
arcade classics are Asteroids, Burger Time, Centipede, Defender,
Dig Dug, Frogger, Galaga, Galaxian, Joust, Pac-Man, Robotron
2084, Space Invaders, Street Fighter Alpha, Tempest, and Xevious .
GameTap has plenty of the sequels to these games as well.
"Although
GameTap offers the largest assortment of console and PC games, video
game fans still crave the classics," said Stuart Snyder, Senior Vice
President and General Manager for GameTap. "Fortunately, our library
features four times as many arcade games than any other service and we
continue to update our roster each week with large batches of popular
games “ not just one or two titles."
Since GameTap's recent
introduction of multi-player gaming, the network has seen a surge in
both competitive and single-player arcade game use. This indicates that
gamers are not only embracing the turn-based dueling that transpired
during the heyday of the arcade fervor, but they are practicing for
these challenges as well.
"You can find some of the classic
games we offer in the dark corners of cyberspace, but these illicitly
emulated titles are often poor glitch-filled imitations," said Ricardo
Sanchez, GameTap's VP of Content. "Because all of GameTap's titles
undergo the close scrutiny of the original publishers, the authenticity
of our games resonates with gaming purists.
GameTap lets
subscribers have unlimited access to the more than 600 games at any
time for only $9.95 a month, which also includes access to more than
400 original TV shows and videos that cater to fans of the video game
lifestyle.
