High: A great life simulator, with many hours of fun for any Sim fan.
Low: Lack of content and polishing of the game before release.

The Sims 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, with this anticipation comes high hopes. This game delivers to anyone with high hopes. Everything in this game is an improvement on the last, and with the added game play features this games rating rounds off to an overall 9.

Major changes in the over all game help make this a wonderful sequel and brings allot of new demotions to the genre. One of the simpler changes they made was the interface; it is easer to get around in the game. This new interface really makes the learning curve much smaller. It now just takes a few clicks of the mouse to make a new neighborhood or load an existing neighborhood. While playing the game it is now easier then ever to go between stories of the house, and between playing modes.

Another new element to the game is DNA, which works the same in sims as it does in humans. This brings a whole new dynamic into your sims lives, not only do your sims kids resemble there parents, there is also new family bonds formed from this DNA. Grandparents everywhere know why there grandchildren are now, this makes it possible to have family get-togethers and uncle Charlie is less likely to hit on his own sister, also makes it possible for wife's to know when there husbands have been cheating on then and had a kid with another woman.

There are allot of new social activity's now, all of which bring new things to the table for relationships. Sims interactions with other sims is now more realistic, social events now happen in a more realistic time frame, though sometimes this isn't true, but nether is life. Love between a child and parent has evolved since the first game, there really is a family tie between the children and the parents. The same thing goes for extended family, as a matter fact having an extended family is a whole new concept with this game. This brings some times vary funny and realistic family dynamics to the game, which gives the game a lot of replay value.

A blank green slat, first a foundation, a first floor, a porch, a staircase, and that is the start of the new families home. Build mode is one of the most exciting new features in the game. With the ability to build 5 story houses and have a porch, it's a big improvement over the previous game. With new roof tops, roof style, fences, gates, and many other new elements, designing your sims dream home is much easier. Any builder would love to always have the toold available in this new game. This has to be one of the best improvements to the game.

As the game loads you get your first glimpse of the new game interface which is a huge improvement over the last one. The new game interface is much nicer on the eyes then the previous one. It is also much more organized and flows much better with the game, much less intrusive. The game interface has helped lower the learning curve of the game.

The scenery of the neighborhoods is nice, and since you can modify how they look that adds to the experience. But when you go to your house the scenery in the background disappears. This is unrealistic for it to do this, though you can design the outside of your house and yard to a T so this is not to bad a drawback. Never the less it would have been nice to see your neighbor's house, or the park that's next door, instead of nothingness.

Your sims are walking up to there house and in there house, that's when you notice the stove is flat. A sad point in the game is seeing wonderfully crafted cabinets next too a flat refrigerator and stove. Most of the furnishings or, as they are called in the game, objects are well made and look great in the game. So for the objects that do not look so nice, I wonder if there deadlines hurt quality or if it was for game play purposes.

Wonderful rich long blond hair continues to a beautiful face. before you know it you have made a whole new family of vary well crafted sims. The development team at maxis got it right on when it came to the sims. It would have been nice to see other body types, but what is there is well thought out, down to shadows and makeup.

The sounds of sims has not changed much since the last game, there language is a little more complex but that's all that has been added there. The language might not have improved much, but the tons and timing has. For instance when your sins kiss, or ask another sim on a date, there ton of voice matches there mood and intentions.

Music is another major part of the game when in the neighborhoods or in build mode. The music has changed again like it does on all The Sims games, and it fits the mood and style of the game well. It can get quit in Live mode if you don't have your sim turn a radio on. There should be background music that can be turned off in the options panel if the user does not like it.

The sound of a toilet flushing is a wonderful sound; in the sims world anyway, all the sound effects in the game are vary well implemented. That said it would have been nice to have the creaking of the bed, or as your house got older the creaking of the floors.

So for anyone that likes a good simulation game and wants to play god for a day this game is a great choice. There is a small lack of content, but the new game play and graphics engine more then make up for it. This game has real replay value for anyone that loves to control the lives of others, or loves to build and design houses and lots.
