Do you dream about being a Tycoon? Do you enjoy playing with animals? Do you dream about helping endangered species? Well if you said yes to these questions do we have the game for you. It’s called Zoo Tycoon II and if you enjoy the thought of helping endangered species then the expansion pack Endangered Species is for you.

Zoo Tycoon II is the second-installment of Zoo tycoon developed by Blue Fang Games and produced by Microsoft Game Studios. Zoo Tycoon II is followed by the expansion pack Endangered Species. The expansion pack added a lot of new animals and objects to Zoo Tycoon II. Some of these animals include Florida Panther, Komodo dragon, Orangutan, & some of the new objects include elevated paths, sky trams, and vehicle tours.

In the game you can play three different modes, freeform, campaign and challenge. In freeform you build the zoo with an unlimited amount of money, freeform also has all the animals and buildings. Freeform ads to the open ended game play that Zoo Tycoon was known for. The campaigns are set up so that you move along in the game in a way where you are introduced to new situations, objects and animals via different scenarios, and goals. Ever campaign will have sets of goals that you have to meet. After you reach each goal you will move on to a new campaign which will be harder than the last. Some of the campaigns you can play are zoo keeper in training which is really fun and it’s just like the name says you play as a zoo keeper in training learning to take care of all the different types of animals the zoo has. There are also locked campaigns, to unlock them you have to play the previous campaign. Challenge lets you play in a freeform type style, but you get to select challenges for yourself, though there are no main goals.

The graphics are really great and realistic, for example Galapagos Giant Tortoise really looks like Galapagos Giant Tortoise. The people in the game really are lacking in depth, the face looks like it is painted on a flat surface, though the body module is fine. The only other problem is that the people seem to move unnaturally. This doesn’t take much from the game though since the focus is on the animals.

The visually effects are really good. You have a realistic amount of wild birds that really go with where you have the zoo located. The animals you need to be careful about, some animals are not good together so they fight and/or even kill one another. In one freeform that we played we placed a Polar Bear family next to a family of Spanish Lynx and anytime the male lynx got close to the side where the polar bear family was the male polar bear would stand up trying to pick a fight with the lynx so in the end we needed to move one of the families so we would not have the problem of them killing one another.

Snow Leopard Birth
The animals give birth in magical way the baby animal’s just shows up in a shower of glider. The camera controls are easy to use but when you go into zookeeper/guest mode it seems unstable which makes for an unsettling almost dizzy feeling.

The sound in the game is really good it makes you feel like you really are standing there in the middle of a real zoo. Some of the sounds you will hear around the zoo will be running water if there is a river or waterfall in the zoo, and of course you will have the sounds of the animals and guest. The background music is such that you almost forget its there, but it does help set the mood of the game.

Over all Zoo Tycoon 2 is a great game. Despite the problems with the camera in the Guest Mode the game is still very fun and easy to play. So if you like simulation games and like the idea of playing with animals in a zoo setting Zoo Tycoon 2 is the game for you.
