Wireless 56k sharing, something that only fools dream of, or can it be done. Well if it can't be done then how am I lying in bed writing this article? I'm in bed and writing because it can be done and I know this first hand. Using the right bit of intellect, the right tools, and a little bit of money, any person stuck with simple 56k can do it too. Its as simple (well, unless youre a networking master, its not that simple) as disable DHCP. You can probably find this in your manual and most mid to high-end routers will allow you to do this. "But DHCP controls my computers IP adress and lets it get on the network according to my manual." That is very true, but just because the router isnt controlling it doesnt mean nothing is. In ALL cases in which you use Windows built-in ICS, the host (computer used to dial) machine controls the DHCP. In lamence terms, Computer A dials the internet, router B, connects to computer A via network cable, ohter computers with wireless connect to router B and computer A then gives them an IP adress and internet access. Now if DHCP is enabled ont he router the router gives the IP adress but not internet access. For some reason letting the router control DHCP messes things up. If you wish to set up a wireless network but only have dialup either refer to the manual you get with the router you buy on how to turn DHCP off and use the network setup wizard on the computer that will dial the internet or get a Netgear WGR614 and follow the guide in the forums,
