2Old2Play is reporting that Nintendo has announced a Wii Firefox browser is in development.

If this is true than what exactly is the purpose of having two internet browsers for the Wii. Well as we can tell the Opera browser is designed for baby boomers, nice and simple. Maybe the Firefox version will be a more complex browser designed for the hard-core internet user.

I believe this is true because of to things, Firefox is extremely popular on the PC. Secondly, as stated in the article the Firefox browser there will be some sort of quick typing tool allowing us to type at up to 50 words per minute.

Today, Nintendo announced two initiatives, first Mozilla Firefox web browser will be coming to the Wii to steal more market share as they've done on the PC/Mac. It will utilize the Wiimote motion and buttons to navigate web pages. It will feature a text entry system that boasts the ability to enter 50 words-per-minute.

Secondly, a partnership between Nintendo and the Associated Press to provide worldwide headlines to the Wii. Nintendo will build a custom web page for the Opera Browser (no word if the application will work with Firefox but there's a good chance that it will.) Users will be presented with an interactive global map allowing you navigate using the Wii controller.
