With this year being the most crowded release schedule than ever seen, video gamers will have plenty of games from which to choose this holiday season. Makers are competing for devotion and gaming dollars, and considering it’s a $25 billion a year industry, that’s not a small amount of money.
Four games already released or about to be released that will offer tough competition: “Rage,” “Resistance 3,” “Battlefield 3,” and “Batman: Arkham City.” These games offer something for everyone, from shooter games to games that use your wits instead of lightning-fast reflexes.
All of the games are expected to make money, but the ones out first will make the most. In addition to games with earlier release dates, the ones that have motion-sensing capabilities will also rake in the cash, as the novel way of gaming appeals to more and more players.
Since gamers tend to buy up games, their gaming budgets tend to get depleted as the year wears on. So titles that don’t come out until the end of November could sell fewer copies than ones released in late October or early November, according to video game industry analyst Michael Pachter.
Some highly-anticipated titles to be released in November include “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception,” “Modern Warfare 3,” “Assassin’s Creed,” “Saints Row: The Third,” “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3,” and “Need for Speed.”
Blockbuster titles generally sell for between $40 and $60, which adds up fast when multiple titles are on the wish list.
